Description: Dell Rock consists primarily of a puddingstone ledge arising approximately 40' above Hyde Park Avenue. The site is dominated by woodland, comprised of black locust, maples, oaks, cherry, and birch with sparse, grassy groundcover. The top of the site is comprised of rock outcrops interspersed with low bush blueberry and low-growing grasses.

Current Use: The site provides a pleasant visual reprieve from the busy traffic and dense residential development along this stretch of Hyde Park Avenue. The open grassy areas on the lower portion of the site provide a quiet retreat for picnics or reading. The top of the rock outcropping affords views of the Stone brook Reservation and, in the winter, of the Blue Hills. Broken glass and litter are a chronic problem at this site.

History: The site was permanently protected through a transfer in ownership from the Department of Neighborhood Development to the Parks Department in 2004. Subsequently, a neighborhood group, the Friends of Dell Rock, has formed and become active in site stewardship, event planning, and grant writing. In 2006, the UWI and FODR developed a planting plan to ecologically and aesthetically restore the Hyde Park Avenue of the site.
